Shop Local in the Heart of Scenery Hill

Traveling along Pennsylvania’s National Road wouldn’t be nearly as fulfilling without a pit stop at the shops in the heart of Scenery Hill. The village is quaint, eclectic, and a popular destination for both local and tourist antique and craft shoppers. The winter holidays are by far the most magical time of the year for the historic spot with lights illuminating the town and the most precious gift ideas to leisurely peruse.

From artisan cheeses and coffee beans to kitchen aprons and Christmas decor, the shops at Scenery Hill have something special to offer all visitors. But most importantly, when you find that perfect something, know that you are buying local and helping a strong community become stronger.

Here’s a list of some must-visit shops in the heart of Scenery Hill:

  1. Elves Lair- Their selection of holiday decor and antiques is ever-changing and that is what’s so special about this store. Every visit there is something new to browse or buy! Their holiday wreaths are “to travel for” and they can even customize one to your liking any time of the year. There is no better way to describe this lovable shop then their slogan, “More than a Christmas Store.”
  1. Velvet Envelope- A gift shop where you can find all your cooking gadgets and house ware needs. Think baking pans, cookie cutters, cook books, unique glassware and dishes, local pottery, and vintage linens. This cute shop, with an even cuter name, is full of little treasures! Be sure to check out their facebook page for product posts and event updates.
  1. Westerwald Pottery- Phil Schaltenbrand is the heart and soul of this pottery palace and some even refer him as the “jack of all trades,” being that he is an author, historian, professor and potter extraordinaire. The shop is a place of many firsts though. It was the first to offer personalized stoneware, use authentic cobalt brush decoration, and sign, date, and stamp each piece in the line. If you are looking for authentic, homemade pottery, this is the store for you.
  1.  Jan’s Tea Shop- A fixture in Scenery Hill since the 1980’s, this little shop brings the most delightful aromas of fine tea and coffee from around the world. There is always a fresh brew for guests to sample, as well as mixes, special blends, tea sets and gifts of the likes. In the summer months, they complement their offerings with delicious ice cream.

There is a little saying that goes, “Shop local, spend local, eat local, and enjoy local.” This holiday season and moving forward, we encourage you to support all of the local shops along the National Road that continue to support the area where you live, work, play, and visit!
