Fayette Trails Coalition
Connecting communities, trails, and people across Fayette County.

Building Fayette County’s trail future through the Sheepskin Trail
The Fayette Trails Coalition is an initiative of the National Road Heritage Corridor’s Department of Outdoor Recreation. Our work is currently focused on the Sheepskin Trail, a critical corridor that forms the foundation of Fayette County’s trail network.
While the long-term vision of the FTC includes supporting a countywide network of trails, our present efforts are concentrated on the Sheepskin Trail, working alongside Fayette County and local communities to build connections, enhance quality of life, and create opportunities through trail-based placemaking and engagement.
Connecting people, communities, and outdoor spaces
To improve active transportation and recreation opportunities in Fayette County by supporting and activating the Sheepskin Trail as the foundation for a broader, connected trail network. Through placemaking, advocacy, and community outreach, we aim to create safe, accessible spaces that strengthen communities and support local economies.
Our mission also includes celebrating local culture, interpreting our rich history, and offering educational opportunities that connect people to the land and one another.

The Sheepskin Trail
The Sheepskin Trail is the spine of Fayette County’s future trail network. It connects local communities to larger trail systems like the Great Allegheny Passage and the Mon River Trails, forming part of the regional Parkersburg to Pittsburgh route and the larger IHTC Trail Network.
Educational Programs
We offer workshops, history and nature-based programming, and community talks to inspire local engagement and a deeper connection to the places the Sheepskin Trail touches.
Community Events
Join us for guided hikes, volunteer workdays, historic presentations, bike rides, and stakeholder meetings that bring people together around the Sheepskin Trail.

One trail town at a time
While our current work centers on the Sheepskin Trail, we believe in a future where the FTC can support a broader network of trails across Fayette County. Our mission today is to build a strong foundation, connecting people and communities through one trail town at a time.
